Job Description

Overview:
The Development Coordinator is a key member of NRS’ Engagement team. They contribute strongly to  organizational fundraising activities (including donor acknowledgement, cultivation and management and special events), grant management (including research, writing and reporting) and provide administrative support for the NRS Board Development Committee and the Associate Board.

The ideal candidate brings a high level of energy and innovation and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility, strong organizational skills, effective written and oral communication skills, and a nuanced understanding of NRS’ diverse and broad audiences will be key for success in this role. This position reports to the Chief Engagement Officer, works with NRS senior leadership and the Board of Directors, and will be instrumental in assisting the organization with meeting its annual fundraising goals.

The Development Coordinator position is based in Chicago and will be temporarily remote during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Some evening and weekend hours will be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a strong understanding of NRS’ programs, goals and financial needs
  • Lead the donation management process, including documenting and processing donations, updating and managing the donor database, and facilitating donor acknowledgment and retention efforts
  • Research and identify grant opportunities that align with NRS’ mission and programs
  • Assist with developing and writing grant proposals, reports and other related materials
  • Work collaboratively across departments to collect required information, accurately reflect messaging and needs of the organization and identify gaps in service
  • Maintain annual calendar for tracking grant and reporting deadlines
  • Assist with development and application of collateral materials including email blasts, social media posts, annual reports, campaign specific documents, etc.
  • Assist with the coordination of special events and other NRS fundraising activities
  • Serve as the liaison to the NRS Associate Board; and provide administrative support for the NRS Board of Directors Development Committee

Qualifications:

  • Strong administrative skills and detail-oriented
  • Superior communication skills – including strong writing and editing, relationship management and community engagement
  • 1-2 years’ experience with grant development, writing and management
  • Self-starter who thrives in both a collaborative environment and working independently
  • Must be able to prioritize and manage projects from start to finish and to consistently meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, PowerPoint), Adobe and donor database management systems
  • An understanding of and commitment to the operating goals and mission of the National Runaway Safeline is essential.

Salary Range: $31,000 – $33,000
