Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Communication and Grants Manager will manage our communication strategy from paid advertising and brand management to social media efforts, donor impact messaging, and more. This professional is the primary architect of St. Joseph Home’s narrative in partnership with organizational leadership. S/he will also be responsible for foundation relations and grant writing from strategy to proposal submission and follow-up. S/he will work closely with fellow Advancement Team members, the Vice President of Advancement, the CEO, and other organizational leaders to ensure all efforts are message and strategic.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Communications and Marketing

  • Constructs and facilitates continuous evolution of the organization’s message and ensures alignment across tools of this message in partnership with organizational leadership
  • Coordinates the collection of stories from across the organization’s different lines of service to incorporate across varied mediums
  • Develops and manages production, content and timelines of all print materials for various audiences including annual report, appeals, donor communications, and articles
  • Develops and manages production, content and timelines of all electronic content including the organization’s website, online fundraising site, e-newsletter, basic videography, and social media presence
  • Manages marketing and communications of every St. Joseph Home event engaging current and prospective donors in collaboration with other Advancement team members
  • Monitors effectiveness of communication and marketing tools using data analytics and adapts strategies ongoing to both improve reach and express our work more clearly
  • Keeps a pulse on best practices and new tools on the horizon to ensure that our communications and marketing strategies are current and evolving
  • Serves as primary partner to communicate new programs or developments within the SJH community with media and other respective audiences
  • Manages communication strategy around first-time, monthly and lapsed donors to build donor loyalty
  • Grants and Funder Relations
  • Manages all relationships with existing and prospective funding partners – both private and public – consistently cultivating and stewarding those relationships to increase yield from grants
  • Develops and executes the entire grant development process from prospect research to drafting and submission of requests to reporting on the impact of the partnership
  • Solicits for and manages a dynamic list of needs and wants on the part of the organization such that grant proposals that are submitted are appropriate, timely and needed
  • Networks within the local funding community to raise the profile and awareness of St. Joseph Home

Relationship Management

  • Coordinates internally with individuals, staff, and families to effectively and appropriately carry out communications and grants functions
  • Manages external vendor relationships and contracts in order to accomplish assigned functions
  • Facilitates the acknowledgement and stewardship process of key partners related to communications and grants functions
  • Periodically manages interns and volunteers as it relates to the core functions of the role

Committee Involvement

  • Member of the Board’s Advancement Committee
  • Member of event committees
  • Participates in other internal and external committees as assigned and desired

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor or advanced degree
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of demonstrated experience in related profession
  • Demonstrated success in communication and marketing efforts
  • Experience with grant writing preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working Hours/Environment

  • Hours are at least 40 hours per week, typically aligned with administration hours of 8:30am – 4:30pm; may require additional hours periodically, including evenings and weekends depending on business needs
  • Work is primarily indoors but may include external settings for meetings, conferences, activities, events and outings
  • Employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and hot and cold temperatures
  • Job may involve sitting or standing for extended periods
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • Job is subject to varying and unpredictable situations
  • May occasionally handle emergency or crisis situations
  • Subject to many interruptions
