Job Description

Daybreak, a not-for-profit organization that provides emergency shelter, housing, employment, outreach and mental health services for runaway, throwaway and homeless youth and young adults seeks a Chief Development Officer.

The Chief Development Officer (CDO), reporting to the CEO, will serve as part of the Executive Team and be responsible for planning, implementing, managing and overseeing all development and public relations activities to support Daybreak’s mission. This includes fundraising and donor relations, annual campaigns and direct mail, major gifts, planned gifts, private grants, special events, third-party fundraisers, media relations, social media, community engagement, volunteers and strategic partnerships.

The CDO’s primary focus will be major and planned gifts and private grants from individuals, corporations and foundations, while overseeing the department to ensure operational goals are met.

Successful candidate must have Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations or related field. 7-10 years of development experience with demonstrated significant results in gift prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and closing of major and planned gifts with a proven track record in annual giving and grant writing.

Additional qualifications include: excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain positive relationships with donors, prospective donors, board members, senior leadership team and community leaders. Computer proficiency, including familiarity with all MS Office products and database software. Raiser’s Edge a plus.
