Job Summary:
The Development Director implements the annual fundraising plan, working closely with the VP of Development & Communications to set fundraising goals and craft strategies that sustain and increase annual support from individuals, corporations, foundations, governments, and faith communities. Success is measured by fundraising initiatives and activities that align with annual and long-range development goals. The Development Director supervises and coaches three development officers and a coordinator.
This position is part of a strategic growth plan aimed at tripling the number of families served by Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati’s programs, and doubling fundraising revenue in five years. It is a key part of leveraging an internationally known brand to attract and attract and retain supporters through a great donor experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned.
- Lead the development cycle, including identification, qualification, stewardship, recognition, and retention strategies, including creation and implementation of formal moves management, for all donor constituencies in collaboration with VP and development officers.
- Ensure positive and purposeful contact with all prospects and donors. Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and gift closure.
- Manage a small portfolio of individuals, corporations and foundations. Make solicitations when appropriate.
- Work closely with development team, board, and other key volunteers in support of events, campaigns, and other related fundraising activities in support of the strategic plan.
- Collaborate with development and communications staff to create effective, branded, current materials for donor education and solicitation.
- Participate in ongoing decisions regarding database design, data collection, data analysis, and methodology. Utilize Raiser’s Edge at an expert level.
- Participate in fundraising programs with Habitat for Humanity International and other strategic partners.
- Adhere to the highest ethical standards; demonstrate empathetic disposition, and perseverance; reflect optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to needs of the donors.
- Travel within service area to accompany development officers as needed to visit current donors and prospective partners.
- Meet annual performance goals.
- Act as a passionate and informed advocate for HFHC and serve as a key representative for the organization for events and other speaking engagements (shared responsibility among Development and leadership teams).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum BA/BS degree in a relevant field; advanced degree and/or fundraising certification preferable.
- 8-10 years of experience in coaching, managing, and evaluating front-line fundraisers against fundraising objectives. Major gift and campaign experience welcome.
- Passion and calling to engage the local community in Habitat’s mission. Respect for and openness to learning about diverse families, communities, and religions.
- Ability to successfully manage both short- and long-term responsibilities of the position, implementation of program goals and objectives, and administrative support for the program.
- Successful experience developing cultivation and solicitation strategies, including moves management plans.
- A demonstrable track record of fund-raising accomplishments is essential, including experience in identification, cultivation and solicitation of donors giving $10,000+.
- Highly capable in relationship building and relationship management. Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills in various social and professional settings to ensure positive relationships with colleagues, donors, and volunteers.

- Excellent organizational and time management skills. Exceptional attention to detail and follow-through.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Professional, articulate speaker comfortable with public speaking.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including some weekends and evenings as required. Occasional travel.
- Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, current car insurance, and a good driving record.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite and internet research. Raiser’s Edge or comparable CRM experience preferred.
