Organization: Founded in 1999 as the National Signs of the Times Museum and renamed and reopened as the American Sign Museum in 2005, it is dedicated to the art and history of commercial signs and sign making. Its mission is to “celebrate the rich history of American signage through preservation and education.” Located in the Cincinnati neighborhood of Camp Washington in a century-old complex, its collection of signs and artifacts continues to grow as does its attendance topping off last year with 41,518 visitors. The Museum is currently preparing for a campaign to expand into the building’s undeveloped annex to double its capacity for displays, exhibits, education space, guest experience and administrative space. Position: Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the Resource Development Committee (RDC), the Development Director is responsible for planning and implementing a multi-faceted development program, currently an annual fund, grants, wills and bequests program, and orchestrating development and fundraising activities and events. This is a growing program raising about $250,000 in gift support in FY 18.

Expectations: The successful candidate will bring demonstrable experience with hands-on campaign/major gifts or equivalent project management experiences, preferably in a nonprofit setting; excellent written and oral communication skills; exemplary interpersonal skills; keen interest in the mission of the American Sign Museum; team oriented and able to work independently; diplomatic and confident; able to maintain good relationships with donors, Board and other volunteers, and ASM staff while enforcing expectations and requirements.

Qualifications: Baccalaureate degree or equivalent; experience in event planning, project management, fundraising, communications, marketing, or similar functions, preferably in a nonprofit setting; experience supporting fundraising activities; experience working with and coaching leadership volunteers/boards a plus; proficiency in basic Microsoft Office required and experience with Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress or equivalent desired; experience with variety of social media desired; and a sense of humor in a fun environment helpful.
