Job Description

The Associate Director of Development, Gift Planning is responsible for providing charitable gift and estate planning information to the Miami University community, including donors, prospective donors, and volunteers. The incumbent will build upon the program’s solid foundation and will work cooperatively with volunteers, faculty and staff to increase the volume of life income gifts, bequests, other planned gifts, gifts of real estate and gifts in kind in support of the university’s academic mission.

Duties:

  • Responsible for managing a portfolio of approximately 100-150 planned gift prospects on behalf of Miami University.
  • Travel on a regional and national basis to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward planned gift prospects and donors.
  • Assist with planned gift marketing efforts.
  • Encourage and coordinate alumni and friends’ involvement through campus visits and off-campus events.
  • Attend events such as those for the Society of Miami Emeriti/Retirees and Hughes Society events as needed as a representative of the Office of Development.
  • Assist in development of gift planning articles, brochures, website review, etc. as needed.
  • Perform other duties related to the mission of the Office of Development under the Assistant Vice President of Development, Gift Planning.

Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; minimum of 3 years of experience in development, law, financial services, marketing or other related field; volunteer work may be counted towards this requirement. Outstanding oral and written communication skills; commitment to collaborative approach to fundraising; excellent organizational skills; exceptional attention to detail; ability and willingness to travel on both a regional and national basis.
Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree; 5 or more years of experience in development, law, financial services, accounting or other related field. Experience in an educational setting.
