Planned Giving on the Run Completes Fourth Successful Year
Published August 9, 2010 by Susan Kulick
Planned Giving (PG) on the Run is a comprehensive, yet straightforward, educational opportunity for non-profit professionals in the greater Cincinnati community.
Fourteen "students" enrolled for a 6 month long course designed to help them add planned giving to their organization's fundraising capacity. The Greater Cincinnati Foundation graciously hosted the classes at their downtown office.
PG on the Run is designed for the busy professional who needs a planned giving program but doesn't have the time, staff or budget to start a traditional one from scratch. All the nuts and bolts needed to start a planned giving program were covered at the sessions each month. Sessions covered topics such as writing a case statement, types of planned giving vehicles to consider, gift acceptance policies, stewardship, and strategies to sustain a planned giving program.
Classes were interactive and participants were encouraged to bring issues affecting their own organizations to discuss during each session. The class was led by Andrea Herzig and Susan Kulick, who have taught this course for several years and have many years of planned giving experience. Participants learned from professionals at the Greater Cincinnati Foundation about submitting grant proposals, funding by foundations, and local resources available to help their organizations. As an additional resource, each participant was matched with a planned giving mentor and Board member of the Greater Cincinnati Planned Giving Council, so that specific questions could be explored in even greater detail if desired.
The final PG on the Run session ends in June. Soon, planning will occur to make PG on the Run even better next year. If you would like to help with this effort, please contact Susan Kulick at susan.kulick@cchmc.org.
